Booking Information
To make travelling with Friendly Islands Shipping Agency (FISA) as smooth as possible, please take note of the following booking guidelines.
1. Before you book
- Check the schedule: Confirm the voyage number, departure date and ports of call (for example Voyage V001, departing 09/12/2025 from Nuku’alofa).
- Passenger details: Have full names, dates of birth and contact details ready for every passenger, including infants and children.
- Ticket type: Choose between Economy or VIP. VIP includes extra comfort and seating; Economy is the standard cabin class.
2. During the booking
- Passenger categories: Fares depend on age. Infants (1–3 years), Children (4–12 years), Adults (13–64 years) and Seniors (65+) are priced according to FISA’s current fare table.
- Baggage: Each passenger may bring a small carry‑on (up to about 7 kg). Heavier bags, food boxes or chilly bins must be checked in as baggage/cargo at the wharf and are charged per piece (travellers report around TOP $30 per bag or box).
- Payment: Bookings are only confirmed once payment is received and a ticket or booking reference number has been issued.
3. Check‑in at the wharf
- Arrive at the wharf at least 1–2 hours before scheduled departure.
- Bring your ticket / booking reference and a valid photo ID.
- Baggage or cargo must be checked in at the baggage counter before boarding.
- Check‑in may close 30–60 minutes before sailing; late passengers risk losing their booking.
4. Changes, cancellations and no‑shows
- Changes to dates, route or passenger names may incur a fee and depend on seat availability.
- Cancellations may attract a partial refund or credit according to FISA’s refund policy.
- If you do not show up for departure without cancelling in advance, the ticket may be non‑refundable.
5. Special assistance
- Contact FISA before booking if you need help for elderly passengers or those with reduced mobility, wheelchair space, or travel for unaccompanied minors.
- The crew must be informed in advance of any medical conditions that could affect travel.
6. Dangerous goods and restricted items
- Dangerous goods cannot be booked as normal baggage on a passenger ticket.
- Fuel, large gas cylinders, firearms, ammunition and other hazardous items must be declared and may only travel as approved cargo under maritime safety rules.
This information is a general guide only. Always check the latest FISA terms and conditions printed on your ticket or displayed at the ticket office.

Travel Information – Travelling with FISA
Travelling specifically with FISA (Friendly Islands Shipping Agency). The following outlines the FISA passenger allowance and identifies items that are prohibited or restricted.
Baggage on the ferries
- Carry‑on: Usually 1 small bag up to about 7 kg you can take with you onboard.
-
Checked baggage / cargo:
- Bigger or heavier bags, food boxes, chilly bins, etc. must be checked in as baggage/cargo in crates at the wharf.
- Travellers report paying per piece (for example around TOP $30 per bag/box).
Dangerous / risky items on ferries
Because of maritime safety and customs rules, you generally cannot take the following as normal passenger baggage on a FISA ferry:
- Fuel containers, large gas cylinders, explosives, fireworks
- Large quantities of chemicals, paints, or other flammable liquids
- Firearms and ammunition (without proper permits and declaration)
These must go as properly declared dangerous goods or cargo, if they are allowed at all. FISA and the port authority follow national shipping safety rules and can refuse items that are unsafe.
Also note: ferries don’t operate on Sundays by law in Tonga (Sabbath rest law), so all shipping of baggage/cargo is Monday–Saturday.
